Backstage Café Jazz Series to Present 'Spring Jazz' on May 10

The Backstage Café Jazz Series Spring Jazz May 10, 2014
The Backstage Café Jazz Series will be holding its eleventh performance on Saturday, May 10 — Spring Jazz. The concert will take place in the Roberts Theater at the Handel Performing Arts Center, and will feature renowned musicians and Hartt School faculty members Steve Davis and Nat Reeves; also including Hartt School students.
Steve Davis (trombone) teaches at The Hartt School, has recorded many CDs, and has worked with many jazz icons along with club/concert appearances in the New York City and Hartford areas. Davis has recordings as a leader and is currently a member of the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Star Big Band.
Nat Reeves (bass) has been a faculty member of The Hartt School’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz since 1982 and has recorded, performed, and toured throughout the world with Jackie McLean, Pharaoh Sanders, and Kenny Garrett, among others.
Josh Bruneau (trumpet), a graduate of The Hartt School’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, is a trumpeter who has already been making a splash in the jazz world, having played with the likes of Eddie Henderson, Jim Hall, Curtis Fuller, and Steve Davis. The Josh Bruneau quintet brings together the best of Hartford with NYC, and the promise of jazz’s next generation alongside established world-class musicians.
Also performing will be several students from The Hartt School’s Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, which will include piano, drums, guitar, tenor sax, and vocals.
