University President Walter Harrison  and Judith Greiman, president of the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges (CCIC), co-authored an opinion article that was published in the Sunday, April 6, edition of the Hartford Courant.

The article argues against a proposal to replace the current Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) program, in which the state reimburses municipalities for a portion of property tax revenue lost by virtue of hosting nonprofit colleges and hospitals, with a system in which nonprofits would pay property taxes to their host municipalities and then seek to get a reimbursement from the state.

"This may be one of those 'seemed like a good idea at the time' moments, because the result would be a punch in the gut for college students and their families, as well as our communities," wrote Harrison and Greiman.
