The Senior BFA Photography Thesis Exhibition is an annual event. This year it features 12 photographers who work in a variety of mediums and formats, themes and genres, black/white and color, and from 21st century digital imaging technologies to experimental process, such as the vintage 19th century process known as the cyanotype. Their commitment to photography is conceptually underscored by the exhibition’s title, Punctum, referencing the book Camera Lucida by French philosopher and semiologist Roland Barthes.  In this book Barthes defines the word punctum as “that accident which pricks me” but the most common interpretation is “that which pierces the viewer.” The announcement card visually illustrates this point as every image has a punctum.

All BFA senior work will be accompanied by a résumé, artist statement, and checklist of images for the exhibition. For more information please contact Ellen Carey, Associate Professor of Photography, at; 860.768.4393 or cell: 860.478.5789.
