Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of any faculty or staff member who has a dependent child enrolled on their medical, dental, and/or dependent life insurance to notify their designated HR Service Partner immediately of any changes in dependent eligibility status to ensure proper benefit continuation processing. He/she will be provided information regarding continuation of coverage options based upon plan guidelines and/or applicable law.
Dependent children enrolled in University group medical, dental, and/or life insurance plans maintain eligibility status for participation to age 26. Eligibility for coverage terminates at the end of the month in which the child ceases to qualify as an eligible dependent. This change is considered a qualifying event under IRS guidelines.
Failure to notify HRD within 30 days of the qualifying event will result in a loss of eligibility for continuation coverage options under federal COBRA law, as well as denial of claims submitted on behalf of the dependent after the date in which he/she ceased to qualify as an eligible dependent under the employee’s plan(s).
