The JAVA blog of the Hartford Courant noted in a Thursday, July 24 posting that the University of Hartford's The Hartt School is teaming up with the Mandell Jewish Community Center in West Hartford to judge auditions being held to find the next Sophie Tucker.

A documentary film about the life and career of Tucker, Hartford’s most famous daughter and legendary vaudeville, stage, film, broadcast, and recording superstar, will premiere at the 19th Annual Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival in March 2015. To celebrate the debut showing of The Outrageous Sophie Tucker, auditions to find this generation's Sophie Tucker will be held on Sept. 10, at the Mandell JCC’s Herbert Gilman Theater.

Paul Feyer, vocal coach in The Hartt School Theatre Division, will accompany the singers.

The winner will perform in front of a live audience on opening night of the Jewish Film Festival, Thursday, March 12, 2015. The performance will take place prior to the film’s premiere at the new Infinity Music Hall & Bistro, Front Street, Hartford.
