Provost Sharon L. Vasquez sent the following email to University faculty and staff on Thursday, July 31.
Dear Faculty and Academic Staff:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Robert McAlpin as the Director of Budgeting and Financial Oversight for Academic Affairs.
Prior to arriving at the University of Hartford, he served as the managing director of The New School of Drama, a division of The New School in New York City. In that capacity he served in a key leadership position for the school in the areas of financial, business, and administrative management, as well as planning, partnerships, and human resources.
Robert is originally from East Texas, where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater with an emphasis on design and technical theater at Stephen F. Austin State University. He completed his Master of Science in nonprofit management at Milano, The New School for Management and Urban Policy, in New York City. He pursued his career in theater as production manager, general manager, and producer in Tucson, Chicago, and Hartford before settling in New York. There he freelanced with companies such as New York Stage & Film, The Women’s Project, Ridge Theater, and The Classical Theater of Harlem.
Robert came to higher education budgeting by happy accident but has found a love for formulas, spreadsheets, planning, and analysis. Robert likes to say that, “It is the opportunity to support faculty and staff in the educating of students that truly drives me.”
Currently he is working to understand our strategic planning and annual budgeting processes, and to gain a clear understanding of the operations of our unique collection of schools and colleges.
Please join me in welcoming Robert to the University of Hartford community.
