Fox CT Does Story About University's Decision to Enhance Public Safety's Ability to Respond to Emergencies

FOX CT did an interview with the University's Department of Public Safety Chief John Schmaltz and Sergent Timothy Humiston about the institution's decision to arm some Public Safety officers in an effort to improve the department's ability to respond to emergency situations.The story aired on the FOX CT News at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, and during the FOX CT Morning News Show on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The interview was done on Monday, Aug. 25, at the conclusion of a ceremony celebrating the promotions of five officers - two to the rank of sergeant, two to the rank of corporal, and one to the newly-created rank of first sergeant. The program also recognized those officers who had completed the rigorous 70-hour training program necessary to be selected to carry a firearm on campus.
