The University of Hartford Barney School of Business is happy to announce that the Upper Albany Main Street organization has been awarded the 2016 Eversource Founders award by the Connecticut Main Street Center.  The Founder’s Award recognizes individuals and organizations who dedicate themselves to promoting an awareness of the necessity of a comprehensive management approach to the revitalization of Connecticut’s historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.

Upper Albany Main Street is an economic development engine in Hartford, working to improve the environment for small businesses, promote entrepreneurship, and establish Albany Avenue as a vibrant Afro-Caribbean neighborhood of destination.   It is with great congratulations that they have.  Barney School students have the opportunity to work directly with Upper Albany client firms in the Micro Business Incubator course.  The Micro Business Incubator course allows students to connect with business owners to learn about the challenges owning and operating a small business.  Students also offer their accounting, marketing, finance, operations, and other areas of expertise to help the businesses overcome their challenges. This partnership was developed in 2002 as a joint project and has continued to grow throughout the years.

The Barney School is dedicated to teach our students to become competent, confident and connected. This course allows them to accomplish these goals by creating an on-site, one-on-one, applied learning environment.

Again, we congratulate Upper Albany Main Street in their progress and recognition for economic and community development excellence.
