The Chronicle of Higher Ed asked readers to share their favorite newsletters and means of organizing good writing. President-Designate Woodward's submission was published in the Jan. 31 Daily Brief. See what he and others had to say:

Reading material.

Especially in turbulent times, it can be hard to keep up with the vast amount of journalism being produced. So last week we asked you to share your favorite newsletters and other means of organizing good writing.

Julie Peterson (whose consulting group produces its own daily higher-ed newsletter) recommended Dave Pell's Next Draft newsletter and the Aspen Institute's Five Best Ideas of the Day.

Greg Woodward, president of Carthage College, recommended the weekly Brain Pickings newsletter as a way to transcend "the noise of the 'real' world." (He also offered some commiseration: "Every few years I realize I am never going to catch up on my New Yorkers … so I do a little sacrificial purge from tables and shelves all over the house. It is hard.")
