Baritone Robert Barefield and pianists David Westfall & Kelly Horsted, together with mezzo soprano Sondra Kelly, will present a recital of vocal works on Friday evening, February 10, 2017 at 7:30pm in Millard Auditorium.  The program will feature Dichterliebe, the best-known song cycle of Robert Schumann.  Composed in 1822, on poetry by Heinrich Heine, Dichterliebe (A poet's love), is a cornerstone of the classical vocal repertoire.  Mezzo soprano Sondra Kelly will join Barefield to perform duets by Johannes Brahms.  Ms. Kelly had a long career at the Metropolitan Opera and joined the Hartt Vocal Division faculty in the fall of 2016.  The program will also include the world premiere performance of a light-hearted new song cycle by renowned composer Scott Wheeler, on poetry by Lloyd Schwartz, a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize.
