Hartt Community Division Summer Programs Sign-Up Week, April 3–8

Are you looking for performing arts education opportunities this summer? The Hartt School Community Division offers a wide variety of summer programs for youth and adults at our West Hartford and Hartford campuses. Come visit us during our Summer Programs Sign-up Week April 3–8! We’ll be set up at our four locations to tell you about our programs and answer your questions:

Parents, caregivers, infants, and toddlers love our program for young learners, birth through 5 years of age.

Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Preprofessional
July 3–14, 2017
9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Embark on a journey of intensive personalized performance training in musical theatre for outstanding performers ages 14-20.

Summer Musical Theatre Intensive Junior
July 10–21, 2017
9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Exceptional opportunities for young performers in grades 4-8 to develop their acting, dance, and singing skills in a safe, supportive environment.

From Studio to Stage
July 10–Aug. 10, 2017
9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with evening activities

An intensive summer training program for serious dance students age 12 through college.

From Studio to Stage II
July 10–28, 2017
Half-day program for students ages 7-11, Monday-Friday.

  • Morning session: ages 7-8
  • Afternoon session: ages 9-11

A unique program in ballet training for the younger dancer, with a final studio performance showcase

Dance Teacher Training Workshop
July 17–21, 2017

"The Elementary Years" full-day workshops led by lecturer and Chair of Dance Carol Roderick.

Summer Middle School Intensive
July 17–21, 2017
9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Instrument-specific master classes paired with an ensemble experience for instrumentalists entering grades 6-9.

Hartt Suzuki Institute
Teacher Workshops: July 28-Aug. 5, 2017

Student Workshops: July 30-Aug. 4, 2017

For students, the Suzuki Student Institute offers intensive study in violin, viola, cello, guitar, piano, and flute. The Suzuki Teacher Workshop is designed for teachers who wish to gain expertise in Suzuki pedagogy.

Young Composers Project: Summer Edition
July 31–Aug. 4, 2017

A five-day intensive workshop for students interested in writing music. This year's theme will be "Composing for the Big Screen."

Summer Private Music Lessons

The Hartt School Community Division offers private music lessons for children and adults in piano, strings, winds, brass, percussion, voice, guitar, harp, organ, and music composition. Suzuki-method study is available for bass, cello, flute, guitar, piano, violin, and viola. Some instruments are available for students as young as 4 years of age. Lessons are offered both at our main-campus location at the University of Hartford's The Hartt School in West Hartford, Conn., and our Simsmore Square location in Simsbury, Conn.

Summer Dance Classes


HCD dance classes are held in the spacious studios of the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center (HPAC) in Hartford, Conn., close by the University of Hartford's main campus. Classes are taught by experienced and knowledgeable professional faculty. The program includes both recreational classes for younger children and adults and a conservatory-quality program for more experienced students.
