Lauren Cook’s newest film, Trans/Figure/Ground, has been making the international film festival rounds with recent screenings at the Ann Arbor International Film Festival, Athens International Film Festival, Antimatter Media Arts Festival (Canada), Supernormal Festival (UK) and Punto Y Raya Film Festival (Spain & Germany). It has also screened at a number of theaters and galleries including Deluge Contemporary Art (Canada), Plug Projects (Kansas City), and Other Cinema (San Francisco). Upcoming screenings include the Chicago Underground Film Festival and Winnipeg Underground Film Festival.
The film was completed in 2016 and uses a blend of digital and analog animation and glitch distortion to create imagery that slowly transforms from analog to digital. It's a film about uncanny valleys and the spaces in-between.
Lauren Cook teaches filmmaking, animation and game design courses at the University of Hartford, where she is Associate Professor of Cinema.
