Barbara Crane, professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Hartford, received the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions’ inaugural excellence through relevance Faculty Service Award at the 2017 ENHP Day.

Mary Gannotti, Faculty Executive Committee chair, presented the award on behalf of the selection committee and noted that Crane has contributed significantly through her participation on a variety committees in the Rehabilitation Sciences department, college, and the University. This includes service as a member of the Human Subjects Committee for 10 years with the past two as chair and most recently assuming role as the College’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

“The recognition that has come to Dr. Barbara Crane is well deserved,” said Dean David H. Goldenberg. “Whether it is the department, the College, or the University, Barbara has always stepped forward to do her part…and then some, on behalf of us all. She is a much-valued colleague and we are fortunate to have her as a member of the College.”

Crane is also an active member of several professional organizations and serves in multiple capacities in each of these organizations. Organizations include: The Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), American Physical Therapy Association, and the Connecticut Physical Therapy Association. Additionally, she is a member and past co-chair of the Clinician Task Force. She recently joined the International Society of Wheelchair Professionals, an organization formed in 2015 to foster development and growth of qualified wheelchair service delivery professionals around the world.

Additionally, Crane was awarded a prestigious Fellow Award for longstanding service to RESNA in June of 2014.

ENHP Board of Visitors Vice Chair Bobbi McNeil sponsored the award.

In 2018, the college will recognize one faculty member’s dedication to teaching. The second excellence through relevance Faculty Teaching Award will be presented at ENHP Day. To learn more about this college event visit hartford.edu/ENHPDay.
