All are invited to a presentation by Justin Liberman and showing of his films this Monday, May 15 at 1:45 p.m. in Hillyer 303. Liberman is an accomplished filmmaker and professor who is an applicant for the Cinema Program Director faculty position.
He has directed and written several award-winning narrative, documentary and commercial films. Prof. Liberman says that he seeks to “aim my lens at the underrepresented and those living on the fringes of society. From my first film, Y Nada Mas, which explored the Mexican-American experience in Los Angeles, to my latest film, Tobacco Burn, which is based on a Slave Narrative collected by the W.P.A. writers, my films have been dedicated to giving a voice to the voiceless.”
Liberman’s films have been exhibited internationally at film festivals and galleries and have won many festival prizes and jury awards, including the TriBeca Film Festival, Montreal World Fest and the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. He is currently developing a feature film with Grammy Award winning folk singer Rhiannon Giddens and producer Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Accountant). He has completed commercial work for clients such as Google, Nike, American Express, Rémy Martin, and ESPN.
Liberman is Visiting Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Film and Television Masters program at Sacred Heart University where he teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate filmmaking courses. He received an M.F.A. in Film Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University.
