Hartt School Alum Named “American Opera Idol 2017”

"American Opera Idol 2017" winner Andrés Moreno García '15 is pictured with finalist Kaarin Phelps "16 (left) and Doris Lang Kosloff, Opera Connecticut’s artistic director.

Congratulations to Andrés Moreno García ‘15. He was awarded Opera Connecticut’s “American Opera Idol 2017” title in a live competition, July 20, at Elizabeth Park’s Pond House Café in West Hartford. A native of Mexico, García is an award-winning tenor who majored in vocal performance at The Hartt School, and has performed in many countries including the U.S., Italy, Mexico, and Israel.

García competed against 10 singers, including vocal performance major Kaarin Phelps ’16, who also was a top five finalist in the competition. As the winner, García, was awarded the American Opera Idol 2017 title and a $1,500 cash prize
