The Creative Studies department at The Hartt School Community Division is dedicated to providing students with innovative and distinctive musical experiences. Please check out our 2017–18 Creative Studies offerings.

Adults: Sign up for our brand new 7-week Ukelele class, Saturday mornings, 11:15–12:15. This class starts Oct. 7 and is taught by Luke Nelson

Also available for adults: Musicianship. Gain knowledge relating to fundamental aspects of music theory, ear training, and music history.

Remember: HCD always has offerings for adults, and University faculty and staff are eligible for a 10% discount! In addition to Ukelele and Musicianship, adults are welcome to sign up for Adult Chamber Choir, chamber music (no audition required), private music lessons, and dance classes.

YOUNG COMPOSERS PROJECT

The 2017–18 session of the Young Composers Project (YCP)—which runs from Sunday, October 22, to Tuesday, May 15, 2018—is now enrolling. If you're a student in grades 7–12 (or homeschool equivalent) who is interested in writing your own music, YCP is an opportunity to delve into music composition.

YCP is for students with an interest in

  • learning to express themselves through music
  • gaining a deeper understanding of how music works
  • sharing their music with other students
  • studying with active and enthusiastic mentor composers
  • working with professional musicians
  • hearing their music realized in live performance

Students may enroll in one of three sessions:

  • Tuesdays, 7:30–8:30 p.m.
  • Sundays, 3–4 pm, or
  • Sundays, 4:15–5:15 p.m.
