Robert L. Duran and Lynne Kelly, both professors in the School of Communication, published a study entitled, “Knapp’s Model of Relational Development in the Digital Age” in the Iowa Journal of Communication (Fall 2017, vol.49, 22-45). The article reports the results of an investigation into the ways in which young adults use Facebook, texting, and calling across the stages of romantic relationship development. Findings revealed differential use of technologies in varying stages of relational progression, with specific communication behaviors enacted via the technologies characterizing relationship stages.
