Personalized open enrollment packets for applicable calendar year 2018 benefit options have been distributed to all full-time faculty and staff.  Detailed information as it relates to this year’s open enrollment is included in the letter contained in this packet.  Please complete both sides of your personalized Open Enrollment Request Form indicating your intentions for calendar year 2018 benefit elections.  This completed form, plus any additional documents (as noted on the green request form) must be submitted and received by HRD no later than 4:30pm on Friday, November 10, 2017.

*REMINDERS *

  • The University will continue to offer both the Deductible-based Plan (DBP) and the Point of Service (POS) plan, administered by United Healthcare.  Effective January 1, 2018, the University will add a third medical insurance plan option – a High Deductible-based Plan (HDBP).
  • Effective January 1, 2018, the University of Hartford’s group medical insurance plans will change the definition of an eligible spouse as it relates to the University’s medical insurance plans (see details and definitions on the Spousal Affidavit included in your materials).
  • Participation in a health care flexible spending account (FSA), dependent care flexible spending account or a health savings account (HSA) do not automatically default.  You are required to complete and submit a Participation and Salary Reduction Agreement Form for enrollment in these accounts.  FSA salary reduction agreements must be submitted along with open enrollment materials no later than November 10, 2017. HSA salary reduction agreements can be completed at any time throughout the calendar year.
  • The University will continue to contribute into a Health Savings Account (HSA), which partners with the DBP and the new HDBP.  Effective January 1, 2018, instead of pro-rating the University’s contributions into a HSA throughout the year, the University will deposit half of the annual contribution into this account on the first pay in January, and the other half on the first pay date in July. Note:  Academic year employees who receive their pay on the academic year cycle will receive the second half of their HSA contribution with their first available pay in the new academic year.
  • If HRD does not receive all completed open enrollment paperwork, current calendar year 2017 medical, dental, vision and/or optional life insurance elections will automatically default for calendar year 2018 and cannot be revoked or changed during the plan year unless you have a qualifying event (such as marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of child, or termination of coverage under a spouse’s plan).
  • The University will continue to offer incentives for faculty and staff (and their eligible spouses) who elect to participate Rally, in the University’s voluntary wellness program.

All applicable open enrollment information is now available by clicking the red Open Enrollment link on the front page of the HRD website at www.hartford.edu/hrd.
