Open Enrollment Deadline is Friday, November 10

Open Enrollment materials were distributed to eligible full-time faculty and staff the week of October 16. Please be reminded that your completed Open Enrollment Request Form indicating your intentions for calendar year 2018 benefit elections, plus any additional forms (as noted on the request form), must be submitted and received by HRD no later than 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017.  

Please be reminded that, effective January 1, 2018, the University of Hartford will change the definition of an eligible spouse as it relates to medical insurance. All spouses currently enrolled in the University’s group medical insurance plan(s) will have their coverage cancelled effective December 31, 2017 UNLESS a signed Spousal Affidavit is received by HRD by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 attesting to spousal eligibility. This change does not impact spousal eligibility for dental, vision, or optional life insurance benefits. For CY 2018, employees whose base earnings are less than $40,000, if annualized, are exempt from this requirement, if applicable.

If HRD does not receive all completed open enrollment paperwork, calendar year 2017 medical, dental, vision, and/or optional life insurance plan elections will automatically be defaulted for calendar year 2018 and cannot be revoked or changed during the plan year unless you have a qualifying event (such as marriage, divorce, birth, or adoption of child, or termination of coverage under a spouse’s plan).

Participation in a health care flexible spending account (FSA), dependent care flexible spending account and/or a health savings account does not automatically default; therefore, you will be required to complete and submit a Participation and Salary Reduction Agreement Form for enrollment in these accounts. FSA salary reduction agreements must be submitted along with open enrollment materials no later than November 10, 2017. HSA salary reduction agreements can be completed at any time.
