Office 365 Faculty and Staff Migration FAQ

As you are aware, University of Hartford Information Technology Executive Council addressed the challenge of modernizing and unifying disparate email, contacts, and calendaring systems on campus and voted on October 20 to move all faculty and staff email accounts to Office 365. This move will put all students, faculty, and staff on the same email and calendaring system.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the migration:

Q: What does this mean for me?

For students there is no impact. For faculty and staff, you can expect all email, calendar, contacts, and tasks on the current Hawkmail system to be migrated to the new Office 365 service.

Q: When is it happening?

Employee email, calendaring, and task migration is scheduled to take place during the holiday break.

Q: What do I need to do?

OTS will automatically move your email, contacts, and calendars. After the migration, all of your devices my need to be reconfigured to access the new service. OTS and help desk will help you configure your devices to ensure a smooth transition. You will be able to continue using your existing Outlook mail client. FAQs and information can be found here

Q: Will you help me configure my devices for the email service?

Yes, there are several ways that we will be helping people to configure their devices. First, OTS has published instructions to allow you to configure your devices to Office 365. If needed, OTS will be available to visit your office in person to configure desktop email clients.

Q: Will my University of Harford email addresses be the same?

Yes, your email address will be the same after the migration.

Q: What items are migrating to Office 365?

Your email mailbox and folders that are not on your local computer, calendars, contacts, and tasks will be migrated.

Q: Can I forward my email off campus?

Yes, Office 365 users may forward their email to a non-UHart provided service (e.g. Gmail). All those who currently forward email off campus will not need to take any action for that to continue.

Q: Will Microsoft scan, mine, or use my email for any non-University purpose?

Microsoft will not scan, mine, or use our content for advertising or other purposes. University of Hartford remains the sole owner of all our data (rights, title, and interest).
