Hwayeon Ryu, assistant professor of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences, was selected as a National Science Foundation US Junior Oberwolfach Fellow (NSF-DMS 1641185 Grant) to attend the international seminar on Mathematical Modeling in Systems Biology (Nov. 19-25, 2017) at Oberwolfach, the highly prestigious research institute in Germany,  (https://www.mfo.de/occasion/1747a/www_view).

While at Oberwolfach, she worked with many junior researchers in systems biology on various projects. From this seminar, Ryu developed a new collaboration opportunity with two female mathematicians, Professor Kamilia Larripa at Humboldt State University and Professor Susanna Reblitz, who is one of the seminar organizers from Zuse Institute Berlin in Germany. They plan to work on a tumor modeling project next summer.
