Office 365 on Personal devices versus University owned computers and devices:

Personal computer and devices

Students, faculty, and staff now have access to install Microsoft Office Prof 365 using their hartford.edu user name on up to five(5) of their personally owned computers (PC or Macintosh) and five(5) additional personally owned mobile devices. The five(5) activations of Microsoft Office Downloads/Installs that are included with the University's subscription to Office 365 allows the University community to utilize Office products on personally owned devices and activated in that individualshartford.edu user name. Microsoft recommends that you uninstall any older versions before downloading Office 365.

Microsoft Office Prof 365 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, OneNote, and Skype for Business. Included with this software download is a 1 TB storage space on your OneDrive.

To access Microsoft Office Professional on your personally owned computers and devices:

Go to https://portal.office.com and enter your full University address (user@hartford.edu). Note that page will change to an image of the bridge when you begin entering your password. Use your regular Hartford.edu password to proceed with the login. Once signed in, the install button is in the upper right or you can choose to just use the Microsoft Online version of the Office applications and not install anything on your device.

For more detailed and specific instructions please refer to the OTS Office 365 link located on:

University Computers and Devices

Please do not install Microsoft Office Pro 365 on any University-owned computers or devices in your Hartford.edu email name. These are covered by a campus site-wide license. Computers in common areas and classrooms where multiple individuals use the same machine should not have Office activated to a personal account. The University owns a campus-wide site license for Microsoft products which includes activation for Office 2016. For devices owned by the University, these campus-wide site wide license means that the activation is in the University’s name not an individual. OTS will work with Faculty and Colleges to upgrade Classrooms and Computer Labs.   For individual employee desktop and laptop computers owned by the University it is strongly recommended that users schedule a time with OTS to install Office 2016.

If you have any questions outside of this communication or other documents, please contact the Office of Technology Services through the Help Desk at either 860.768.4357 (HELP) or helpdesk@hartford.edu or refer to the OTS Office 365 link at Hartford.edu/OTS

The University of Hartford is pleased to offer this benefit to students, faculty, and staff.
