Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award for Part-time Faculty, Application Deadline: Tuesday, Jan. 16

The Office of the Provost continues to accept materials in application of the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award for Part-time Faculty.

Part-time faculty are an integral part of the University of Hartford’s teaching and learning environment, and this award gives the University an opportunity to celebrate their achievements. Awards will be announced at the annual Part-time Faculty Reception in February. In addition to public recognition, the part-time faculty chosen will receive a monetary award.

To be eligible to apply, the part-time faculty member must have taught at least 30 credits at the University of Hartford. [1]

Applications must include:

  • A curriculum vitae;
  • A list of the last 30 credits taught at the University of Hartford, including course title, course number, and semester/year the course was taught;
  • A statement of your philosophy of teaching and learning (no more than 2 pages);
  • A sample syllabus from a course taught at the University of Hartford;
  • At least two forms of evidence demonstrating teaching effectiveness and enactment of your stated philosophy. Examples include, but are not limited to, student evaluations, peer observations (limit 1), and letters from former students (limit 1); and
  • A letter from the direct supervisor (e.g., Department Chair, Division Director, or Associate Dean). This letter should directly reference evaluations of the part-time faculty member’s teaching (e.g., summaries of teaching evaluations, teaching observations).

Applications will be evaluated by a sub-group of the Advisory Committee on Part-time Faculty, which will include representatives from the full-time faculty, the part-time faculty, the Faculty Senate, and the Office of the Provost.

Applications are due to the Office of the Provost (CC 311) by 4 p.m. on January 16, 2018.  Please note the application deadline is firm, NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED. Any questions about the award or the application process can be directed to the Associate Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies at 860.768.4504.

[1] A part-time faculty member who receives the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award is not eligible to apply again until he/she has taught an additional 30 credits at the University of Hartford after receiving the award.
