Saxophone students from The Hartt School have been invited to perform at The 40th International Saxophone Symposium hosted by the United States Navy Band at George Washington University in Fairfax, Virginia. The Ilithios Quartet, Andrew Carey, Sophie Kaye, Abby Pollock and Giovanna Virgil performed music by David Maslanka and Russell Peck. Additionally, doctoral candidates, Perry Roth (saxophone) and Anna Grudskaya (piano), collaborated to perform Vikor Ullmann’s Slavonic Rhapsody at this years Navy Band Symposium in January.
The North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference, hosted at the Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music has invited the Duende Quartet, made up of graduate students, Connor Baba, Bradley Karas, Perry Roth and Joseph David Spence to perform in March. The quartet will present a new composition entitled Seasons by Spence, who is studying both saxophone and composition at Hartt. The conference will also have multiple performances by the Barkada Quartet, which includes current doctoral candidate, Perry Roth and alumni Shane Rathburn (AD, ’17). Formed at Hartt in 2015, the Resurgam Quartet, features a group of Hartt Alumni, Harrison Kliewe (BM '17), Colette Hall (DMA '15), Sean Tanguay (BM '17) and Michael Raposo (BM '17) will also perform a world premiere work by another Hartt alumni, Ted King-Smith (BM ’10) entitled, Breaking Point.
