"Starting a sport is an incredible milestone for any college or university and we are excited about the inaugural season for women's lacrosse at Hartford," Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie said. "You only get to have one 'first game' and we are working hard to make Feb. 24 a great day for our student-athletes, coaches, parents, staff and our university and local communities."

The journey to field a women’s lacrosse team began more than two years ago, in October 2015, when Hartford first announced that it would sponsor a women's program. Decker came on board during the summer of 2016 and hired assistant coach Liv Pyne that September . She completed her staff with the additions of assistant coach Melissa Jaworski and volunteer assistant Tara Coyle.
