The Barney School of Business was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Spencer Educational Foundation over a two-year period. The project will begin March, 2018.
This project will aim to build human capital in the emerging and critical InsurTech space. Barney School of Business will do so by developing inter-university, inter-disciplinary courses on InsurTech at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. These courses will equip current and future managers with knowledge and skills to help organizations better understand, mitigate, and manage risk through data, analytic, and other technological innovations. Barney School will intend to fervently leverage existing capabilities, programs, and curriculum at the Universities of Connecticut and Hartford, and the emerging Hartford InsurTech ecosystem, to maximize student learning.
InsurTech refers to the emergence of new, technology savvy players entering the insurance sector, bringing unprecedented innovation, disruption, and opportunities for both cost savings and revenue generation. InsurTechs are altering the terrain on which companies compete, and incumbents are investing in emerging companies as well as in their own internal technological capabilities.
OSP congratulates Barney School of Business in this new funding opportunity and to the project team who will lead this program into maximizing student learning and collaborative efforts.
