Category: Accolades

Ivana Milanovic, professor of mechanical engineering is the guest editor for the annual COMSOL News 2018 issue. In this COMSOL News magazine simulation specialists share how they work with colleagues and customers to find solutions that can satisfy both business and engineering goals.

In the guest editorial, ‘STEM Education: Simulation Apps Prepare Students for Life Beyond the Classroom,’ Dr. Milanovic shares her insights of simulations in STEM with the international community. Her University of Hartford experience has found that the integration of mathematical modeling, numerical simulation, and visualization techniques profoundly impacted students’ performance inside the classroom and, furthermore, inspired their careers beyond academia.

Undergraduate mechanical engineering students, Iliana Albion-Poles and Jeffrey Severino, supported by the Connecticut Space Grant for Faculty Research, were featured in the editorial. Additionally, four simulation projects sponsored by Drs. Milanovic and Eppes, professor of electrical & computer engineering, were presented at the recent Undergraduate Research & Creativity Colloquium:

  1. Albion-Poles, Iliana & Severino, Jeffrey, ‘Computational Aeroacoustics of Dual-Stream Nozzle Flows,’ Sponsored by Connecticut Space Grant: Faculty Research.
  2. Dubiel, Patrick, ‘Fighting Howls & Hisses in Jet Engine,’ Sponsored by CETA Faculty/Student Research Grant 2018.
  3. Stylianides, Aikaterini, ‘Acoustics of Dorm Room,’ Undergraduate Honors, Spring 2018.
  4. Keilich, Stefan, ‘Improved Microfluidic Mixer Design,’ Sponsored by CETA Faculty/Student Research Grant 2018.
