The Department of Mathematics recently hosted an event in recognition of Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month. On Thursday April 26, two mathematics classes from the UHSSE gathered in Dana Hall for a set of presentations by our undergraduates on probability and statistics. Nicole Schaefer and Kristina Olenick (mathematics majors) presented "Expected Value and Application to Basketball." Kayla DePara and Julia MacIntyre (mathematics majors) presented "Statistics in the Real World." Ben Stec (mathematics major) presented "Deal or No Deal: Knowing When to Take the Bet." Digno Iglesias and Jeffrey Severino (acoustical engineering majors) presented "Do You Have What it Takes? A Statistical Perspective on Developing Skills." Department of Mathematics faculty Aslihan Demirkaya (event coordinator), David Miller, and Mark Turpin moderated the event.
