A musical composition by Stephen Michael Gryc, Professor Emeritus at the Hartt School, will be aired on public and commercial radio stations across the country next week.  Professor Gryc’s Evensong will be heard in an arrangement for trumpet and organ on the radio program Pipedreams. Pipedreams, a public radio staple for 30 years, presents “extraordinary instruments and performers in stirring works that display the variety and wonder of the pipe organ.”  “Music of the Night” is the title of the specific episode of Pipedreams that will be aired on May 14, 19, or 20 depending on the schedules of individual stations.  Early risers can hear the program on WKCR, 89.9 FM in New York, on Sunday, May 20 at 7 am, and night owls can hear the program on WQXR, 105.9 FM in New York, at 11 pm on the same date.

The recording of Evensong to be aired appears on a new compact disc from Curvepoint Media titled Awakenings. The CD features trumpet virtuosi Joel Treybig and Adam Hayes performing with organist Andrew Risinger.  Evensong exists in four versions with the solo trumpet accompanied by piano, organ, wind ensemble, or full orchestra.  The work has quickly become part of the standard repertoire for trumpet players.
