Dorothy Goodwin Scholarship Opportunity to Research Keller Lectures

University Archives and Special Collections is now accepting applications for the Dorothy Goodwin Keller Lectures Scholarship. The Dorothy Goodwin Keller Lectures Scholar will conduct research regarding the Keller Lectures, and contribute short blog articles pertaining to the lectures for the University of Hartford Archives and Special Collections’ blog. The posts will discuss the student’s interpretations, reactions, opinions, and/or analysis of the lectures. The Keller Lectures were hosted by the University of Hartford from 1958 to 1976 and covered a wide array of topics including race, visual/performing arts, domestic and foreign policy, criminal justice, international relations, and literature. The Dorothy Goodwin Scholar is expected to contribute more than 15 posts to the blog.

Hours: Approximately 200 hours of work from September 2018 through May 2019.

Start date: On or After September 4, 2018
Award: $1,950 (paid out in four portions over the course of the project).

Requirements – Must be:

  • A female University of Hartford student in their sophomore, junior, or senior year,
  • In excellent academic standing (3.0 ≥ for over-all GPA; 3.5 ≥ for major).
  • Able to demonstrate strong writing skills,
  • Interested in research and writing,
  • Self-motivated,
  • Detail oriented, and
  • Available to work on weekdays sometime between 8:30am and 3:30pm.

Preferences include prior experience with:

  • Conducting primary source research and
  • Contributing written work for publication

Students interested in applying should submit a:

  • Resume (REQUIRED),
  • Writing sample (REQUIRED), and
  • Cover letter (optional – but recommended)

The cover letter should include your qualifications/skills and why you are interested in the scholarship. Applications will be accepted until the scholarship is awarded, applications received before September 4 will receive greater preference.
