Shannon Mumley M’17, assistant director of The Women’s Advancement Initiative, and director of the LEAD program, will be leaving the University of Hartford on September 18 to become the new Intern Program Administrator (HR Consultant) at Cigna. Shannon started working on campus in 2013 as a campus partner with Aramark. In 2016, she became a member of The Women’s Advancement Initiative team after making connections on campus. Shannon has been instrumental in conducting 50 leadership and professional development workshops for more than 100 female students annually. She connects them to a supportive network and teaches them to identify their strengths and overcome self-doubt.
Shannon is known for greeting each student, faculty, or staff member with a smile, hug, or even a high-five. She empowers students to get involved and say “yes” to opportunities not only through words but by example. She has an unparalleled work ethic and initiative, coupled with a welcoming and inclusive spirit.
Edith Wharton says, "There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." Shannon is known to say, “I am the candle some days and others I get to be mirror for the candles around me.” Her infectious smile and positive energy will certainly be missed.
We invite all faculty and staff to express their best wishes to Shannon at a farewell celebration on Wednesday, September 12, in GSU 331, from 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
