Cyber Safety Starts at Home #cyberaware

As we finish up week one of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), we are sending out or final message about how to “Make Your Home a Haven for Online Safety.” Attached to this UNote is an infographic sharing some additional tips and information about making sure your home is cyber secure.

Furthermore, with everyone in the family using the internet to engage in social media, adjust the home thermostat, or shop for the latest connected toy, it is vital to make certain that the entire household — including children and older adults such as grandparents — learn to use the internet safely and responsibly. To that end, we would like to share some additional online resources for your family to learn more about being #cyberaware.

  • For children in grades 3 – 8, the FBI has a great resource called “Safe Online Surfing”. It is a series of age appropriate online questions in the form of a video games. The web site for this teaching tool is https://sos.fbi.gov
  • For older adults, the US department of Homeland Security maintains an online resource center with tips and information. This resource can be found here: https://www.dhs.gov/publication/stopthinkconnect-older-american-resources

Remember, you are free -- in fact encouraged! -- to share these materials with others, including your family, friends and neighbors.
