Hillyer College assistant professor of communication Rebecca M. Townsend, with co-authors Sha Mamun, Franklin J. Caraballo, John N. Ivan, Nalini Ravishanker, and Yaohua Zhang, published research on pedestrian safety and deliberation entitled, “Identifying association between pedestrian safety interventions and street-crossing behavior considering demographics and traffic context” in the October 2018 volume of the Journal of Transportation Safety & Security. The research aims to understand what kind of interventions can produce changes in behavior that could reduce pedestrian fatalities. Deliberation about pedestrian safety was significantly associated with changes in crossing behavior.
