Saxophone students from The Hartt School competed in the Connecticut State Music Teachers Association (MTNA) chamber music and solo performance competition on October 27, 2018 hosted at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Capturing top prize in the solo performance category was Joseph David Spence, current Master of Music student and first runner-up Brandon Nowakowski, also a current Master of Music student. The chamber music category featured a full array of Hartt saxophone students, with the Ma’at Quartet taking first prize, comprising Hartt graduate students Bradley Karas, Andrew MacRossie, Mark Northup and Joseph David Spence. Additionally, first runner-up in the chamber music category was the Elements Quartet comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students Connor Baba, McCall Kochevar, Brandon Nowakowski and Giovanna Virgil. Each top prize recipient will continue onto the second round of the competition competing against students throughout the Northeast. All students who competed study saxophone with Professor Carrie Koffman.
