Unexpected sounds of excited children’s laughter and chatter wafted from President Greg Woodward’s office on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. It was the annual visit to the president’s office of kindergartners from the University of Hartford Magnet School (UHMS). The visit has become a tradition that helps the preschoolers begin to learn about college and why it's so special that their school is on a college campus. This early exposure to college is supplemented throughout the students’ elementary years with campus field trips, events, and University students who act as tutors, music instructors, student teachers, and athletes and leads many UHMS students to set the goal of going to college.
This year, the kindergartners presented President Woodward with a hat, mug, and pens. They were fascinated by the keyboard in his office so he played a few notes and then let them each try.
