Hartt School Alumnus - Brian Johnston (B.M. Music 2016) Has won the audition for the spot of 2nd trombone in the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Fort Wayne Indiana. On November 12th 2018, the audition was held where the Philharmonic plays. The audition, like most orchestral auditions was behind a screen and consisted of many rounds. Nearly 45 candidates showed up the take this audition, and at the end of the day they had to choose only one. The audition went from 9:30am, and finished around 8:30pm where they announced Brian as the winner. Brian was the very first candidate to go that day, so it was an extraordinarily long day for him, but a very fulfilling one as well. Brian begins his trial period in the next months where he hopes to prove to the music director and the orchestra that he is the right fit for the job.

During his time at Hartt, Brian was a member of Performance 20/20, Foot in the Door, Hartt Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Trombone Ensemble, and he studied with Matthew Russo, Andy Malloy, and John Rojak.
