The Office of Human Resources Development (HRD) held the University of Hartford’s annual open enrollment for calendar year 2019 benefit elections from Monday, October 29 through Friday, November 17, 2018. On November 15, 2018, the Internal Revenue Service announced an increase in the dollar limit that eligible employees can set aside in a health care flexible spending account (FSA) via a pre-tax salary reduction from $2,650 to $2,700 for 2019. Because this announcement came late in HRD’s open enrollment process, the open enrollment election period for only a 2019 health care FSA is being extended for five business days.
As a result of this change, eligible employees who had elected to participate in a health care FSA for calendar year 2019 will now have until 4:30pm on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 to modify their health care FSA election for 2019. If you are interested in modifying your health care FSA election for calendar year 2019, please reply to this email indicating your revised calendar year 2019 health care FSA election and HRD will process this change effective January 1, 2019.
Please note that this extension only applies to the health care FSA plan. All other benefit election made during the open enrollment period that ended on November 17, 2018 will be processed accordingly.
