The Hartt School community mourns the loss of two members of the Hartt family during the holiday break.
On December 29, Composer and Professor Emeritus Edward Diemente passed away. Professor Diemente was on the Hartt faculty from 1948 until his retirement in 1992. During his time at The Hartt School, he served as Chairman of the Composition and Theory Department, Director of the Institute for Contemporary American Music, and Director of the Electronic Music Studio. When he attained the rank of Professor, The Hartt School had become part of the University of Hartford. Honors Edward received over the years included the Larsen Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Hartt Teacher of the Year, and Member of the Inaugural Class of the Hartt School Hall of Fame, the last in 2017.

On December 25, Tenor and Associate Professor of Voice Jerome Pruett passed away with his daughters by his side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was on the Hartt faculty from 1989 until his retirement.
