The 2019 Writing Contests are now accepting submissions!

Every year, the Department of English & Modern Languages holds writing competitions in ten categories, recognizing work written in introductory classes (like WRT 110, 111, and 210); critical essays on literature; interdisciplinary essays; and original poems, plays, and stories.

We will give away thousands of dollars in prize money.

The competitions are open to any University of Hartford student.

Did you write a great essay in WRT 110, one or two years back?  Send it in!  Do you have any poems or stories tucked away on your computer?  Send them in!  How about any essays that span more than one discipline?  It is free to enter these contests.  Why not take a chance?

The categories:

  • Personal Essays Written in an Introductory Class (WRT 110, 111, and 210, ENG 140, or honors equivalents)

  • Critical Essays Written in an Introductory Class (WRT 110, 111, and 210, ENG 140, or honors equivalents)
