The 2019-2020 housing application is now available through self-service. If you are planning on participating in Room Selection, please read this thoroughly for a lot of important information about applying for housing next year!
How do I complete my Housing Application? You can access your Housing Application through your self-service account:
You need to click ‘Continue’ or ‘Save and Continue’ on every page – your application is not complete until you have a complete date and the Application Status page shows three (3) green check marks. Only applications completed by 11:59pm on Mar. 8th will be considered for Room Selection.
If you wish to participate in Anchoring, Mixed Gender Housing, or a request for a housing accommodation (Special Housing Request) – you still need to submit a Housing Application.
The Anchoring, Mixed Gender, and Special Housing Request forms are supplemental to the Housing Application.
What is included in your housing application? The housing application includes pages for you to answer questions about yourself, select your meal plan, and put together a roommate group. Your roommate group is each person you wish to live with in your room, suite, and/or apartment.
ROOM RESERVATION DEPOSIT
How do I pay the $250.00 Room Reservation Deposit? The Room Reservation Deposit (RRD) is paid online through CASHNET. You can log into CASHNET through your self-service center. Once you have access CASHNET – click on ‘payments’. Under the payment menu is the option for the Room Reservation Deposit. Be sure you have selected the Room Reservation Deposit for $250.00. Complete the payment process either by credit, debit, or e-check (there is a processing fee for use of a credit or debit card).
The Room Reservation Deposit must be paid by 4:00pm on Thursday, March 7th for participation in Room Selection.
After you have successfully completed paying your Room Reservation Deposit of $250.00 through CASHNET you will be able to complete your Housing Application the next day (24 hours later).
What is Room Selection? Room Selection is an online process where you select the actual space you wish to live in for the upcoming year. Students select their housing assignment by logging back into the Housing Application and picking from the spaces that are available. This process will occur in April.
What is the advantage of putting together a group? Having a roommate group together means that only 1 person from the group needs to log into the system and select where you all wish to live. That person can put each person into their respective bedrooms. Each person in a group receive the same Room Selection Time Slot and each person can log into the system and select a space. BUT it is much easier for just 1 person from your group to log in and select.
What is a Room Selection Time Slot? Each student who successfully applies for Housing and Room Selection will receive a Time Slot which is when they will pick where they wish to live for the upcoming year.
How are Time Slots determined? Time slots are based on the average number of credits a group has. Complete groups of 6 people select on the first day; complete groups of 5 people select after that; groups of 4 select next; then students that are in groups of 3 or 2 or going through Room Selection as an individual select after that. If you are in a group of 6 and you have all completed your housing application, your Room Selection Time will be determined based on the average number of credits you have completed and in progress
What is Anchoring? Anchoring is an option for students to request to live in the same room, suite, or apartment for the upcoming year. There are 2 Anchoring options:
- Same apartment/room/suite
- Same building or area, different apartment/room/suite
In order to participate in Anchoring, students need to:
- have paid the $250.00 Room Reservation Deposit by 4:30pm on Thursday, February 28th, 2019
- completed their housing application by Friday, March 1st by 11:59pm
- complete the Anchoring Request form by Friday, March 1st by 11:59pm
-be in good standing with the Office of Residential Life and Office of Student Conduct
SAME BUILDING OR AREA, NO SPECIFIC ROOM- is for students who currently live in E & F Complexes, Regents Park, Park River, or the Village and wish to remain in a similar space (to their current assignment) within those areas but do not have a group or roommate designated or cannot complete a group. Students who wish to remain in the same building as their current assignment, need to complete their housing application in addition to this form.
For Regents Park, Park River, or the Village - students can form a group of other students who also currently live in the same area and wish to live there next year or students will be grouped together who wish to live in Regents Park, Park River, or the Village and do not have roommates listed. For example, if you live in a Park River double, you can anchor a Park River double and be assigned roommates.
For E & F Complexes - students can pick the same style room they have now, a single or a double; there is no guarantee of the same exact room, though it is a possibility.
SAME APARTMENT/ROOM/SUITEis for students who wish to stay in their CURRENT residence hall and in their SAME apartment/room/suite (i.e residents of the Village will stay in Village, residents of Regents Park within Regents Park, etc).
To Anchor your CURRENT apartment/suite:
1. 50% of the CURRENT occupants must be returning to the apartment for fall 2019.
2. Students must fill the apartment (ex: if you are in a 4-person apartment, two current occupants must be remaining and you must have two new students submitted to fill the space).
Please be aware that if you are requested to anchor your CURRENT space it is required to fill the room, suite, or apartment to capacity. You cannot plan to buyout any spaces to fill the apartment.
NOTE: 2-person apartments are not eligible for anchoring. Students in special housing are not eligible to anchor.
All students participating in anchoring must have paid the $250.00 room reservation deposit and completed their housing application. Students must be registered for fall 2019 classes by May 3, 2019 in order to remain in their fall 2019 housing assignment. Students who have been denied anchoring or Housing Selection privileges by the Office of Residential Life or Student Conduct are not eligible.
It is the responsibility of each group member to ensure that all deposits are paid and all housing applications are submitted. Failure to do so may result in a group’s request being denied. The Office of Residential Life may not notify a group of an incomplete application or missing deposits, but only of a denied request.
Students will be notified if they have been approved or denied anchoring no later than March 15, 2018 via their Hartford.edu account. If a student’s request has been approved, then they will not be able to go through the online room selection process. Assignments will be confirmed by the end of April.
