Hair Donation Drive

Hello Faculty, Staff, Student, or Alumni.

My name is Kelly Chen-Ruan and I am currently the E Complex Senator for the Student Government Association at the University of Hartford. As senators, our responsibility is to create senator projects which will benefit the student body and create positive impacts on campus.

For my senator project, I will be hosting the University of Hartford’s first “Hair Donation Drive.”

I have paired up with the organization “Children With Hair Loss” and the Salon & Spa located in Plainville, Connecticut called "Studio 466” in collaboration to make this event a successful one. Professional hairstylists recruited from Studio 466 are trained to donate hair.

The only thing I need now is your help. Know of anyone that still needs that fresh cut for the new year? Been wanting to get your hair cut, but don’t want to pay for it? Don’t have time to go out or off campus to get your haircut?

Then donate your hair! Each hair donation will be an approximate ~30 minutes. This accounts for registration, hair cut + trim, and shipment. Your hair donation will be directly shipped by the University of Hartford’s Student Government Association.

"Children With Hair Loss":

“Children With Hair Loss is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that provides human hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults facing medically-related hair loss.  When a child's hair is lost due to Cancer treatments, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, Burns, etc., the painful effects are far deeper than just cosmetic. Each year, the number of children requesting our hair replacements increases and with your support, we can continue to increase the number of children we are able to help in the future!”

In 2018 CWHL Helped: 541 Children with Hair Replacement and Care Kits

Since 2000, CWHL has provided more than: 5000 Hair Replacement and Care Kits, to children FREE of charge! With your continued support, that number will grow!

Guidelines and Requirements for Donating Hair:

Help us “Cover Young Heads to Heal Young Hearts.” In order to do so please follow these requirements:

  • Hair should be at least 8 inches in length or longer is preferred.

  • Hair must be clean and dry, pony-tailed and/or braided (this keeps the hair in one direction).

  • Place rubber band or ponytail holder on each end.

  • Non-chemically treated hair is preferred (but any hair in good condition will be accepted).

  • Gray hair is accepted.

  • Place donation form and hair in ziplock bag and mail to Children with Hair Loss

  • Donors are given a certificate in appreciation for their kindness.

Disclaimer: There are only 18 spots for hair donation participants. It is pertinent that if you do decide to sign up, it is your responsibility to show up on time. If you are not present at the time of your appointment, your spot will be forfeited to the next available participant.

If at any point that your hair donation does not fulfill any of the requirements, you are aware that your spot will be forfeited to the next available participant.

Spots are available by first come first serve. Each time slot will have three open spots. In the case that you are unavailable to take a spot that you previously signed up for, please email me at "" ASAP so that I can remove your name and clear your spot for the next available participant.
