Tonight The Rell Center for Public Service is presenting Here and Now: Social Media and Public Service 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harry Jack Gray Center’s 1877 Club.

The event is free and open to the public.

Taking part in the discussion are Connecticut Democratic Party Executive Director Jacqueline Kozin, Connecticut Republican Party Digital Director Patrice Thibodeau, and University of Hartford Applied Assistant Professor of Communication Adam Chiara.

Bilal Sekou, associate professor of Political Science, will moderate the panel.

The discussion will explore the explosion of social media and other communication channels that enable candidates to bypass political parties and traditional media, while also effectively targeting affiliated voters who have increasingly become more “tribal.” They will also address communicating with younger audiences who are increasingly becoming unaffiliated with a political party.
